Cancún, with its long beaches connected to the mainland, has long been a dream destination for a vacation in Mexico. This guide presents the most unique experiences and hidden gems you can discover in the area.

Puerto Morelos retains its calm fishing village vibe—but there is plenty to do both on land and in the water. Parque Nacional Arrecife de Puerto Morelos is part of the world’s second-largest coral reef, and its thousands of tropical fish and colorful corals provide plenty to see for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.
Best for swimming with turtles
Akumal, which means “place of the turtles” in the Maya language, is still the best place near Cancún to swim with these fascinating animals. Although overdevelopment has reduced the number of turtles, the bay’s clear water still offers high visibility.
The turtles arrive in greater numbers between May and November, with July to September as the peak season. To ensure responsible interaction, it is recommended to join a guided tour, where you learn about the turtles’ behavior and conservation efforts.
