Alberobello – Trulli History in Southern Italy

Alberobello is the most iconic destination in Puglia and the absolute center for Italy's unique trulli architecture. The town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its more than 1,500 preserved trulli – whitewashed limestone houses with conical roofs, constructed without mortar following centuries-old building traditions. The two historic districts, Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, offer winding cobblestone streets, small artisan shops, and lively courtyards where trulli still serve as residences. Rione Monti is the liveliest area, while Aia Piccola provides a rare glimpse into local daily life in more tranquil surroundings.
