Aoraki Valley

Aoraki Valley is centrally located in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and represents the essence of New Zealand's alpine nature. The valley has been shaped by thousands of years of glacial activity, clearly evident in the distinctive moraines, wide plains, and clear, glacier-fed rivers that meander through the landscape. Everywhere, the view is dominated by Aoraki/Mount Cook, the country's highest mountain, flanked by snow-covered peaks that give the valley a dramatic and rugged appearance. Valley walks in Aoraki Valley provide easy access to the open landscape and take hikers along rivers and through grassy plains with constant panoramic mountain views. Especially the Hooker and Tasman glaciers are iconic experiences, where massive ice formations and glacier lakes create some of the park's most photographed scenes. The area is internationally renowned for photography, particularly at sunrise and sunset, when the low light paints the mountains in pink, golden, and blue hues.
