Bormio

Bormio, situated at an altitude of over 1,200 meters in Alta Valtellina, is one of Italy's most distinctive alpine destinations. The town is especially famous for the Stelvio slope, one of the most challenging downhill tracks in the World Cup, which dramatically descends through forests and steep sections, attracting experienced skiers from around the globe. The ski area also offers sunny runs and long descents with views of the Ortler massif. What makes Bormio truly special is the combination of alpine skiing and historic thermal baths. Bagni Vecchi and Bagni Nuovi, located on the mountainsides above the town, make use of naturally heated springs that have been in use since Roman times. Here, you can bathe in outdoor pools with views of snow-covered peaks or green valleys, depending on the season. Bormio’s old town is centered around Via Roma and features well-preserved medieval towers like Torre della Bajona, small squares, and traditional wine bars offering local Valtellina wines. In summer, the area becomes a paradise for cyclists and hikers, with legendary mountain passes like Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo, as well as a network of trails through alpine meadows and national parks.
