Jebel Akhdar Highlands

Jebel Akhdar, known as the Green Mountain Range in Oman, sits over 2,000 meters above sea level in the Al Hajar Mountains and is one of the country's most striking and contrasting landscapes. The high plateau offers a rare cool and pleasant climate, making the area ideal for cultivating roses, pomegranates, apricots, and walnuts on impressive stone terraces that trace the steep mountainsides. In spring, the air is filled with the scent of the famous Damask roses, which are still harvested and locally distilled into rose water. Deep canyons and dramatic wadis carve through the terrain, setting the stage for canyon trekking and hiking with spectacular views. Traditional villages like Al Ayn and Ash Shirayjah are scattered along the mountain's edge, built in stone and connected by ancient trails and falaj irrigation systems still in use. From the iconic cliff viewpoints, expansive panoramas reveal canyons and ridges, especially at sunrise and sunset. Jebel Akhdar is a rare combination of raw nature, vibrant culture, and tranquil mountain serenity, far removed from Oman’s arid deserts.
