Jericoacoara – Brazilian Beach Gem

Jericoacoara, often called Jeri, is tucked away between the Atlantic Ocean and the protected national park area Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara in northeastern Ceará. The landscape is characterized by vast wind-shaped sand dunes, freshwater lagoons, and a coastline that still feels raw and untouched. Lagoa do Paraíso and Lagoa Azul are among the area's main attractions with their turquoise water, white sandy bottoms, and iconic hammocks stretched right over the water – perfect for relaxing in the tropical heat. Jericoacoara is internationally recognized as one of South America's best destinations for kitesurfing and windsurfing thanks to stable trade winds and flat lagoons, especially between July and January. Adventurers can explore the dunes by buggy, try sandboarding, or hike to Pedra Furada, the natural rock arch that is one of the area's most photographed landmarks. Every evening, locals and visitors gather at Duna do Pôr do Sol, where the sun sets into the sea in a ritualistic atmosphere, often accompanied by spontaneous applause. The town itself has retained its bohemian charm with sandy streets without streetlights, small pousadas, international restaurants, and beach bars, where the pace is slow, and nature is always the focus.
