Los Glaciares North

Los Glaciares North is one of Patagonia's most spectacular natural areas, characterized by the northern section of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the world's second-largest continuous ice mass outside Antarctica. Here, enormous glaciers slowly move through valleys toward lakes like Lago Viedma, where icebergs float in turquoise and gray hues. From fixed viewpoints and trails, visitors can experience vivid blue glacier colors, crevasses, and calvings accompanied by the characteristic creaking of the ice. The area around El Chaltén and the Fitz Roy massif is known as Argentina's trekking capital and features some of Patagonia's most iconic hiking routes. Trails lead through windswept steppes, lenga forests, and along glacial lakes with constant views of dramatic granite peaks such as Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Hiking options range from short, leisurely walks along lake shores to challenging day hikes and multi-day treks with significant elevation changes and open panoramas.
