Luxor – The Center of Ancient Egypt

Luxor is rightfully considered the world's largest open-air museum and is one of the most concentrated locations for ancient Egyptian history. The city spans both sides of the Nile and was the center of ancient Egypt's religious power, known as Thebes. On the eastern bank, Karnak Temple rises as one of the world's largest temple complexes, with the immense hypostyle hall and its massive columns showcasing the pharaohs’ ambitions and devotion to the gods. A few kilometers away lies Luxor Temple, beautifully integrated into the city's modern life and particularly atmospheric at sunset. The western bank holds some of Egypt's most famous burial sites, including the Valley of the Kings, where ornate tombs were carved deep into the cliffs to safeguard the pharaohs’ journey to the afterlife, among them Tutankhamun. Also found here are the Valley of the Queens and the temple of Queen Hatshepsut, dramatically set against the desert cliffs. A sail on the Nile in a felucca or a cruise ship offers a serene contrast to the temples and connects the monuments with the lush river landscape. Luxor provides an intense and authentic experience, where archaeology, Nile culture, and everyday life merge in a landscape shaped by thousands of years of history.
