Luxor – City of the Pharaohs

Luxor is situated along the eastern and western banks of the Nile in Upper Egypt and is one of the world’s most concentrated areas of pharaonic heritage. In ancient times, the city was known as Thebes and served as a religious and political center during periods of the New Kingdom. On the east side, Karnak Temple rises as one of history’s largest religious complexes, famous for the enormous hypostyle hall with 134 intricately decorated columns and complex reliefs that depict worship and royal authority. Nearby lies Luxor Temple, which remains dramatically illuminated after sunset, bearing witness to ceremonial processions along the Nile’s eastern bank. On the west bank, the landscape of the afterlife unfolds with the Valley of the Kings, where more than 60 tombs are carved into the cliffs, including the tomb of Tutankhamun with well-preserved decorations and symbolism. Close by is Queen Hatshepsut's mortuary temple, architecturally unique and harmoniously integrated into the cliff face. A sunrise hot air balloon ride offers panoramic views of temples, fields, and desert, while a Nile cruise from Luxor connects the experience with Edfu and Aswan. Luxor is a living archaeological site where history, religion, and the rhythm of the Nile continue to shape everyday life.
