Obertauern

Obertauern is situated at over 1,700 meters in the heart of the Tauern Mountains in the Salzburg region and is renowned as one of Austria's most snow-secure ski areas. The unique high-altitude bowl means the slopes are surrounded by mountains on all sides, ensuring stable snow conditions from November all the way through May. Obertauern's most iconic feature is the Tauern Circuit – a seamless skiing experience where you can ski all the way around the town via lifts and slopes, either clockwise or counterclockwise, without repeating the same sections. The ski area offers wide, well-groomed slopes combined with open bowls, which make the destination especially appealing to powder enthusiasts and experienced skiers after snowfall. The town is compact and ski-in/ski-out is the norm, making logistics simple and efficient. When the day on the slopes ends, skiers gather in the area's well-known après-ski huts, where sun terraces, music, and classic alpine dishes create a vibrant atmosphere.
