Retezat Mountains

The Retezat Mountains in southwestern Romania form one of Europe's most untouched alpine landscapes and are home to Retezat National Park, the country's oldest national park established in 1935. The area is known for its more than 80 glacial lakes – the highest number in Romania – with Lake Bucura standing out as the largest alpine lake in the country, dramatically surrounded by steep, jagged mountain peaks.
