Ring Road

Ring Road, also known as Route 1, is the backbone of any journey around Iceland, stretching approximately 1,332 km in a full circle around the island. The road connects some of the country's most iconic natural attractions and allows travelers to experience Iceland's extreme variations on one cohesive route. Along the southern coast, you encounter powerful waterfalls like Skógafoss, where mist often forms rainbows, and further east lies the famous glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón, where massive icebergs break off from Vatnajökull and drift toward the Atlantic. In northern Iceland, the Mývatn area opens up with volcanic craters, lava formations, and active geothermal zones where steam rises from the ground, accompanied by rich birdlife. The Ring Road also leads through black sand beaches, fjord landscapes, open highlands, and small Icelandic towns where everyday life is lived close to nature's forces. The route can be driven year-round, but the experience varies significantly with the seasons. A full trip typically takes 7–14 days, depending on how many stops and nature experiences you choose along the way.
