Sapa – Rice Terraces and Mountain Tribes

Sapa is dramatically located in the Hoang Lien Mountains in northern Vietnam, near the border with China, and is famous for its spectacular rice terraces that wind down steep mountainsides in layers of green, golden, and emerald hues depending on the season. The area serves as a cultural hub for several ethnic minorities – including the Hmong, Dao, and Tay – who continue to live in traditional villages scattered across the valleys surrounding Sapa.
