About Shymbulak - Almaty Region, Kazakhstan

Shymbulak is Kazakhstan's most famous and highest-altitude mountain and ski resort, beautifully located in the Tian Shan mountains south of Almaty. With slopes ranging from around 2,200 to over 3,200 meters in altitude, the resort is known for its reliable snow, long season, and challenging terrain, which particularly appeals to advanced skiers and freeride enthusiasts. At the same time, there are wide, well-groomed slopes and ski school facilities, making the area accessible for less experienced visitors. Shymbulak's modern gondolas and chairlifts connect several zones and offer spectacular views of steep gorges and snow-clad peaks. A unique advantage is its close connection to Almaty: via the Medeu skating arena and cable car, the resort can be reached quickly without the need for long transportation. In summer, Shymbulak transforms into a popular starting point for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking in the highlands, where the cool mountain air and open vistas provide a sharp contrast to the urban life below.
