Svalbard

Svalbard is one of the northernmost inhabited areas on Earth and one of the few places where the Arctic remains raw, authentic, and almost untouched. The archipelago lies far north of the Arctic Circle, in the middle of the Arctic Ocean between Norway and the North Pole, offering a dramatic landscape of massive glaciers, frozen fjords, snow-covered mountains, and open tundra areas. Svalbard is renowned for its exceptional wildlife, with the polar bear as the archipelago's icon, but also walruses, Svalbard reindeer, Arctic foxes, and various whale species can be experienced in their natural habitat. Activities range from snowmobile expeditions across endless snowy landscapes and guided glacier hikes through deep crevasses of blue ice to wildlife cruises along the coast and expeditions during the polar night. Nature’s contrasts are extreme: midnight sun from April to August and northern lights from autumn to early spring. Longyearbyen serves as Svalbard’s vibrant heart with museums, research centers, local breweries, and cozy cafés, where an international community lives side by side in the midst of the Arctic wilderness.
