Udaipur – India’s City of Lakes

Udaipur, located in the state of Rajasthan, is considered one of India’s most atmospheric and romantic cities, rightfully earning the nickname ‘Venice of India.’ The city was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II and is beautifully situated around several artificial lakes, which give it a unique light and a tranquil pace. The impressive City Palace complex dominates the cityscape with its white and golden façades, balconies, mirrored halls, and courtyards, showcasing the power and refined taste of the Rajput princes. In the old town, narrow bazaar streets meander between temples, landscaped gardens, and historic havelis, where local crafts, colorful textiles, and miniature paintings still fill the streets with life. A boat ride on Lake Pichola is one of the city’s highlights, offering a unique view of the iconic palaces Jag Mandir and Lake Palace, which appear to float on the water. At sunset, Udaipur is draped in warm golden hues, with the reflections of its lakes, temples, and palaces creating a rare blend of serenity, romance, and historic grandeur.
